YMCA Healthy Kids Day is a day to celebrate our shared commitment to helping kids grow up healthy—a commitment we sustain all year long.

In an effort to get children excited about YMCA Healthy Kids Day, we will be promoting and offering tips on the importance of healthy food choices, regular physical activity, and strong family and community relationships.

Healthy living tips for kids and parents
Get the kids involved in shopping for and preparing meals. Your children will learn to cook, and be better equipped to make good nutrition choices. The breakfast or dinner table can also provide a great opportunity to touch base on what is going on in everyone’s busy lives and keep the lines of communication open.
Being active every day is a step towards better health—and it can help kids and adults alike stay energetic and maintain healthy weights. Canada’s Physical Activity Guide recommends 30 to 60 minutes daily of moderate physical activity for adults and at least 90 minutes a day for children and youth.
You don’t have to do it all at once. Add activity up in 5- or 10-minute increments. Start slowly and build up. Ask your kids for ideas on how your family CAN be more active.
Make each day count! It’s the little things that will make a difference over time. Both you and your children will reap the benefits—and the benefits of even small lifestyle changes can be huge.
