Swim Teams and Groups

The Y Waves practice several times a week and are broken into different groups based on swimming ability.

Advanced
Participants must have an understanding of all strokes and good endurance.
*Prerequisite: Star 4 or coaches recommendation

Intermediate
Participants must have an understanding of front crawl and back crawl. Continues to develop endurance and stroke technique.
*Prerequisite: Swimmers or coaches recommendation

Beginner
Participants will develop the ability to do front crawl, back crawl and develop endurance.
*Prerequisite: Must be able to swim 25m

The YMCA Northumberland Barracudas are a Masters swim team operating out of the Cobourg YMCA Pool. We are members of Masters Swimming Ontario (MSO) and The Y Masters Swimmers’ network (TYMS). We provide a chance to work on swim strokes, build endurance and enjoy in-pool camaraderie with periodic social events. There are dedicated lanes two times a week for Barracudas swimmers.

Our Swimming Locations

Cobourg YMCA pool (25m)

The indoor 25m pool has five lanes and is between 1.5 metres and 2.5 metres deep. The pool is used for lane swimming, aquatic fitness, lessons, swim club training and lifeguard training. A chairlift is also available for people with mobility needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

All outdoor footwear must be removed prior to walking on the deck. If you are uncomfortable in your bare feet, please bring flip-flops or indoor footwear.
Tots who come swimming with their parent must wear Swim Diapers. No cloth or disposable diapers are allowed. This rule applies to swimming lessons as well.
Proper swimming attire is required; street clothing is not permitted. For males, a swim suit that is used only for swimming may be worn in the pool; underwear must not be worn underneath. For females, a swim suit in one piece or two may be worn that consists of bottoms and a top.
