As a very proud volunteer, Gabe Walters has certainly made an impact on the staff and members at the Cobourg YMCA over the last 12 years.
Gabe has lived within Northumberland County all his life. He has been involved with Community Living West Northumberland for the past 26 years, which has given him many opportunities to enjoy fun activities, meet new friends and volunteer at the Cobourg YMCA, through our partnership with Community Living that gives their participants the opportunity to volunteer and engage in healthy living. Gabe began volunteering at the Cobourg YMCA in 2004 and every Thursday morning he assists with administrative duties, greets members and participants, gives compliments and welcomes everyone to the facility with a warm smile.
“I think Gabe’s biggest impact is that he greets every member passing by with a handshake or a hug,” says Leslie Murray, General Manager of Membership Services. “It doesn’t matter who they are, or if he knows them, he just enjoys spreading good will and cheer.”
Gabe loves spending time with his family and friends and always looks forward to social outings and shopping trips with Community Living. He also enjoys martial arts, playing baseball, watching wrestling, working out and swimming at the YMCA. Gabe is very active in the community and has become a familiar face for many at the Cobourg YMCA.
“Gabe’s presence in the lobby is very welcoming,” says Tracey Dafoe, Coordinator of Volunteers. “He definitely lights up a room with his loveable nature and people always smile after he greets them.”
Gabe always has a way of making everyone’s day a little brighter. He truly embodies the values of the YMCA and proves a warm hug, a big smile and kind words can go a long way.
