Cameco Partners with YMCA

June 2018

Cameco and YMCA Northumberland will be working together to Build Strong Kids, Strong Families and Strong Communities throughout Northumberland County. Cameco has committed to Patron Level Community Partnership – collaborating and funding multiple programs and initiatives to increase the reach of YMCA Northumberland throughout 2018 and 2019.

YMCAs across the country collaborate with hundreds of partner organizations each year on initiatives that have allowed the YMCA to expand into new program areas, support underserved populations and address critical health and wellness issues facing the communities we serve.
Through the Community Partners Program YMCA Northumberland joins forces with like-minded individuals and organizations with a keen interest in Building Strong Kids, Strong Families and Strong Communities. These partnerships make it possible to share expertise, knowledge and resources, and ultimately, achieve more than we could alone. Through the initiatives that YMCA Northumberland and Cameco have partnered on, we have had a significant impact in our communities throughout Northumberland County. Together we have helped 1400 children learn lifesaving water safety skills through Cameco’s sponsorship of the Lifesaving Society – Swim to Survive program and over 700 safe rides home through the Operation Red Nose Campaign.

As a Patron Level Community Partner, Cameco will continue to support initiatives focused on promoting healthy, safe and active communities, youth leadership & development and inclusive, accessible programming. In addition to Cameco’s continued support of the Swim to Survive Program and Operation Red Nose, this summer, the Cameco Science Rocks program will be launched at YMCA Northumberland Day Camps across Northumberland. This program will incorporate activities, experiments and challenges related to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), designed to pique curiosity, develop problem-solving skills and create the opportunity to learn outside of the traditional classroom.

“At the YMCA, we know that by working together with local organizations, businesses, and individuals, we can extend our reach and provide vital programs and services to even more people in our communities. Cameco has been a long term supporter of YMCA Northumberland, helping make our communities safer and stronger through initiatives including Swim to Survive and Operation Red Nose. We look forward to working on new and innovative programs together to continue to build strong communities throughout Northumberland County,” says Eunice Kirkpatrick, CEO of YMCA Northumberland.

“Here at Cameco, we believe in supporting community organizations that contribute to stronger, healthier communities. We are pleased to continue our partnership with YMCA Northumberland, and with the addition of our STEM camp, to help create more opportunities in Northumberland County. Together we can create impactful programming that helps support kids, individuals, and families, ultimately building stronger communities,” says Nicole Emanuel, Director, Public and Government Affairs, Cameco.
